Donation Types

  • Platelets

Blood platelets are small cell fragments found in the bloodstream that play a vital role in clotting. Platelet donations involve taking a volume of blood from a donor, separating the platelets from the other components, and then returning the remaining components to the donor. The platelets are then used to help patients with certain medical conditions, such as cancer, who have low platelet counts. Platelet donations will take about 2 hours. You can donate platelets every seven days, up to 24 times per year.

  • Plasma

Blood plasma is the liquid component of blood, which is made up of proteins and salts. During a plasma donation, blood is drawn from a donor and then separated into its liquid and solid components. The plasma is collected and the remaining components are returned to the donor. Plasma donations are important for the treatment of medical conditions and for medical research. Plasma donations will take about 2 hours. You can donate plasma every 28 days, up to 13 times per year.

  • Double Red Cell

Double red cell donations are a type of blood donation where two units of red cells are collected while the donor's plasma and platelets are returned to the donor. This type of donation is important because it allows more red cells to be collected from each donor, thus increasing the amount of available red cells used to treat patients in need. Additionally, since the donor's plasma and platelets are returned to them, it reduces the amount of time needed to donate. Double red cell donations will take about an hour. You can donate every 112 days, up to 3 times per year.

  • Whole Blood

Whole blood donations are important and necessary because they enable blood banks to help people in need. Whole blood donations are a vital resource for medical needs, such as surgery, cancer treatments and trauma care. They provide red blood cells, platelets, and plasma, all of which are essential for helping people live longer, healthier lives. Whole blood donations are important for maintaining a healthy blood supply and ensuring that those in need receive the treatment they need. Whole Blood donations will take around 30 minutes. You can donate every 56 days, up to 6 times per year.
